"I'm STILL The Face!"

The conversation regarding the current “face of boxing” continues. In a recent interview, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has addressed the topic. He sent a reminder that he is not retiring and he is still the face of boxing. He elaborated that although he likes Gervonta Davis’ boxing, he remains the face of boxing. Why? Canelo explains that although Davis defeated Ryan Garcia, that is still just one fight. Davis has to continue to engage in such contests to be considered the “face of boxing”.

ShowBizz’ Take: It makes sense that Canelo feels accordingly, however ShowBizz disagrees because of two reasons. Davis has not only been involved in one fight, he has had a successful career thus far. Secondly, the “face of boxing” is a popularity contest. And at this precise moment, Davis’ success Garcia overshadows Canelo’s upcoming bout against John Ryder. It must be noted however that Davis must continue to be successful to remain the “face of boxing”.
