Frank agrees to $1.25 Million Vs Gervonta Davis

Frank Martin accepted to fight Gervonta Davis for a guaranteed $1.25 million. A question one could have is why did Martin, in the past, not take the Shakur Stevenson fight for $1 million? Well, Martin pulled an Aaron Pryor. He, Pryor, turned down a fight with Sugar Ray Leonard for $750,000 but Pryor wanted $1 million. Later, Pryor tried to fight Roberto Duran. Pryor was offered $750,000 by Duran. Is must be noted that Duran did not even know about Leonard’s previous offer to Pryor. That is when Pryor realized that $750,000 was his worth as a fighter for a fight of that magnitude. Pryor went back to Leonard’s offer as he preferred to fight Leonard over Duran for the same money. Although Pryor and Leonard agreed to the fight, the event did not end up taking place since Leonard got a torn retina in sparring and consequently retired temporarily for 5 years.

With respect to the fight between Davis and Martin itself, it’s a great matchup. Why? Because we, the boxing community, have not seen Davis against a slick fighter fighting off the back foot. Perhaps, Martin will start finessing during the fight and Davis will have to deal with that. Therefore, this is a great opportunity for Davis to show his greatness by defeating a new style.

Changing topics to Canelo and David Benavidez, there is not clarity with what is going on. What is known is that Benavidez could move up in weight to fight Oleksandr Gvozdyk. ShowBizz Take: Benavidez showed his hand. He can’t make 168 pounds in a good manner anymore and the ‘business’ will put a rehydration clause on Benavidez if he fights Canelo.
