Is Tank Davis hiding?
As contract negotiations for the mega fight between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia continue, Ryan Garcia, in a recent ESNEWS video has proclaimed his opinion that Tank Davis is hiding behind Al Haymon and demands that there should be no rematch clause involved in the fight contract. While on the surface such declaration makes it evident that Ryan Garcia wants to make the fight happen, does it also consequently reveal an erroneous double standard made by Davis’ fans or “fanboys”. Given reactions to Ryan’s statement in today’s ShowBizz the Adult Podcast, intuitively people would call Ryan Garcia a “duck” if the situation was reversed (i.e. if Garcia was the one demanding a rematch clause that only favored him). This double standard must remind us, boxing fans, that we should be more objective in our opinions about fighters and not only support those boxers who are our personal favorites.
Another topic of interest for today are the words spoken by Anthony Joshua during yesterday’s press conference for his upcoming bout against Jermaine Franklin. Joshua briefly stated that he fights for money given that at the end of the day people do not care for him. Such statement reminds followers of the sport about Floyd Mayweather’s transition into his “Money” Mayweather persona and how fighters’ pursuit of greatness is challenged by lack of support by the public. Mayweather is one example of how lack of support by the public consequently changed him into a more calculated individual and less of a great, “crazy” and risk-taking fighter.
